mediSIGHT – Creating an Encounter: Pre-op Assessment

This encounter is available to nurses who are preparing patients for cataract listing at Newcastle Westgate Cataract Centre.   It is not to be used in other procedures or settings.

• Open mediSIGHT and find the patient record
• Click “Create new +” and choose Pre-op Assessment
• Choose the Cataract Pathway
• Choose In Clinic or By Telephone
• Under Planned operation choose the correct procedure, or add a new one if required
• Complete the following sections
  • Important questions
  • Admission and discharge planning
  • Anaesthetic history
  • Diabetic status
  • Allergies
  • Current medication
  • Observations (As indicated)
• The above sections will identify answers that need highlighting clinically
  This was updated on 18 May 2026 to include all the majority of the questions above.  Changes do not apply retrospectively.

• Enter notes into the Plan section for any of the highlighted answers above

• Finalise the encounter

• The Events page will now show the highlighted entries in black, with an exclamation mark (!).

• And the Overview page will show your filtered comments for easy reference:
