mediSIGHT – Opening and Finding a Patient

mediSIGHT – Opening the Application and Finding a Patient
Draft
How to find and open mediSIGHT and find a patient on the home screen
This guide assumes that you have attended training and been granted access to mediSIGHT on your Windows Login. If you have not attended training then please contact IT Training to arrange this. Peer to peer training, and training from other sites using mediSIGHT is not sufficient to obtain a user account in Newcastle
Opening mediSIGHT
There are two methods to open mediSIGHT.
(1) Local Installation
This method will usually result in a faster application when working on NUTH main sites (RVI / FRH).
Either from the Windows Start Menu:

or from the Desktop by double clicking the icon:

To request mediSIGHT installation on a particular PC, please log a
Service Now ticket with the name of the PC where you need it installing. IT will then deploy this remotely via SCCM.
(2) eRecord Citrix
This method may be faster when working away from the main sites, even on NUTH computers. This includes Manor Walks and Laptops at home.
Note that connections to physical devices (e.g. IOLMaster 500) are not possible when accessing via Citrix
Citrix is available to all users with an account, even when the machine does not have mediSIGHT installed. This is helpful if needing to access mediSIGHT documents around the hospital, or doing a clinic in a temporary / short term location.
Click the eRecord icon on the Desktop, choose the Ophthalmology folder, then click mediSIGHT.

Finding a patient
When mediSIGHT opens, you can use the Quick search to enter a MRN or NHS number. If found the patient will be shown underneath and clicking the record will open it:

Note that if you paste a MRN from another application, mediSIGHT will not convert lowercase to uppercase and will fail to find the patient. You must ensure that all letters are uppercase characters for the search to work correctly.
If the MRN or NHS number are not available, then click “Advanced” and then enter the known details. Click Search and results will be shown in a list. Click the correct patient to open the record:
