Medicus is not just about providing information to ICNARC and NHS England. Staff with an interest in research can audit the data held in the Trust’s Medicus database.

Create a dataset to search.

  1. Click Views in top blue banner bar.
  2. Select All patients (incl V3). The other options in this menu have a filter applied which you may find useful.
  3. Select initial date and final date to define a time frame for your dataset.
  4. Click on View. This is your searchable dataset.

Design your search, a.k.a. Super Query.

  1. Click on Reports in top blue banner bar.
  2. Select Super Query. Note: this option is not available until a dataset has been defined.
  3. Create your simple (search against one field) or compound (search against multiple fields) query.
  4. Save and load queries (just the parameters, not the results) for later use. Click the Save button in top right corner and give the query a name. For later use, click on the Load button and select your query from the list. This list includes queries saved by all users with permission to access the unit.

  5. Click on Search all (searches on all records in the database) or Search selection (searches on the current set of selected records).
  6. Bottom window will populate with results.
  7. See this page for generating a report.
