Inpatient Clinician Ordering on a Future Outpatient Appointment

An inpatient is due to be discharged, the Clinician needs to place an order on the patient’s future outpatient appointment.

From within the patient record for the current Inpatient encounter

1. Click on either the location of the patient or the encounter in the top right-hand corner of the blue demographics bar.
   
2. In the top row of the Custom Information window, check to see there is an Outpatient Referral Visit Type, showing for the correct service.
   
3. Is there an appropriate Outpatient Referral?
   If YES:
   • Double click on the Outpatient Referral.
   • Select Yes to open the Outpatient Referral encounter.
   
   • Click Save.

    
   If NO:

   The future OP referral needs creating before you can place the order, depending on your area, this would be done by either of the following:
   ▪ Ward Clerk
   ▪ Secretary
   ▪ ABC

   Once the future OP referral has been made, repeat steps 1-3.
