If the Fluency Direct app has been identified as the Best Match, it will be highlighted. Or you can <strong>right click on the Fluency Desktop icon<\/strong> on the desktop, select <strong>show more options<\/strong> and click on <strong>Pin to taskbar<\/strong>.\n<\/li>\n<p>\n<div class=\"infoSection\"><i class=\"fa fa-info-circle\" style=\font-size:3rem\"><\/i>  Auto-start is no longer enabled for Fluency Direct. You will need to launch manually after restarting a computer.<\/div><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<li>The <strong>Control Bar<\/strong>, called the \u2018<strong>Pill<\/strong>\u2019 will appear on your desktop and your name will populate if you have a license.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/training.nuth-itt.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Fluency-ctrl-bar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"258\" height=\"58\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9425\" \/><\/li>\n<ul>\u2022\tDrag the Pill to any location on the screen or dock it to any edge of the screen. <\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tTo dock, click and drag the Pill to a screen edge. The screen edge will become highlighted when you near it. Otherwise, connect and then select from list<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Record button \u2013 Select the microphone button or keyboard key that you wish to use to start and stop recording. Click the X to remove the selection.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Calibration \u2013 You will be prompted to read a paragraph to calibrate your microphone to your specific voice and surroundings. <\/li>\n<p>\n<div class=\"infoSection\"><i class=\"fa fa-info-circle\" style=\font-size:3rem\"><\/i>  Calibration requires a minimum of 20 seconds of audio to adjust the gain properly. Gain is different from the volume slider and impacts directly on recognition quality.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<strong>You should perform a calibration every two weeks and when you change your microphone or surroundings for best results<\/strong>.<\/div><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<li>Advanced \u2013 These options will allow you to assign a device button, set the recording mode (text only, command only or standard which is both text and command) and the recording behaviour (hold to talk vs toggle to talk).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<div class=\"infoSection\"><i class=\"fa fa-info-circle\" style=\font-size:3rem\"><\/i>  Suggested Microphone Habits:<\/p>\n<ul>\u2022\tHold the microphone 4-6 inches from mouth.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tCheck microphone settings to ensure correct microphone selected and record buttons are appropriately set.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tGather your thoughts and assemble any pertinent information prior to dictating.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tDictate in a quiet area, with minimal background noise. Calibrate if environment changes.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tSay in full thoughts or sentences, consistently and evenly, avoiding fragmented dictations.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tUse correct verbiage and grammar \u2013 including punctuation.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tSay clearly, at a regular pace \u2013 articulate properly without over enunciating or saying too slowly.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tEnunciate words that can be misunderstood: abduction vs. adduction and hyper vs hypo.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tAvoid using slang, acronyms, and\/or coined terms.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tBe sure to wait until recording has begun before beginning to dictate and only releasing the record button (if using Hold to Talk) or recording is turned off (if using Toggle to Talk) after dictation is complete. This prevents words from being \u201cclipped\u201d from the start or tail end of the dictation.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tStop recording when taking a pause from dictation. This is to prevent capturing other conversations or background noises.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tAvoid heavy breathing or coughing into the microphone while recording.<\/ul>\n<ul>\u2022\tNever allow another person to dictate under your login. This will negatively affect your recognition quality.<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>After you have selected and calibrated your microphone, you will have the option to complete voice <strong>Profile Training<\/strong>. It only takes a few minutes to complete. Though not required, it is recommended for best recognition results. You can return at any time through the Control Bar menu.<\/li>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<li>Select Medical Specialty from the Control Bar drop-down menu. This optimizes the vocabulary for the types of documents you will be dictating. A user\u2019s specialty can be configured based on focused window or application. For example, \u201cClinical Administration\u201d can be used for email and a specific medical specialty for clinical letters created in Powerchart.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/training.nuth-itt.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Fluency-med-specialty.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"836\" height=\"748\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/training.nuth-itt.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Fluency-med-specialty.jpg 836w, https:\/\/training.nuth-itt.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Fluency-med-specialty-300x268.jpg 300w, https:\/\/training.nuth-itt.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Fluency-med-specialty-768x687.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 836px) 100vw, 836px\" \/> <\/li>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<li>Further personalisation options found in the Control Bar are useful but not required for first time use. Rather, personalisation develops with use. These options include:<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<strong>Dictionary<\/strong> \u2013 Create a custom dictionary of Names, Locations, Medications, Procedures, Diagnoses, and Excluded Words.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<strong>Abbreviations<\/strong> \u2013 Create a collection of abbreviations. This is a list of words or phrases that you use repeatedly but abbreviate when saying.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<strong>Commands<\/strong> \u2013 Create commands to insert snippets of text, perform keyboard shortcuts and mimic mouse movements. For better recognition, press the \u2018Play\u2019 button on the SpeechMike when saying commands. In doing so, Fluency Direct expects a command as opposed to something that could be typed.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<strong>Formatting <\/strong>&#8211; This provides additional options related to the display and rendering of the dictation and draft text as regards numbers, measurements, symbols, date &#038; time, and spacing.
