{"id":2243,"date":"2021-09-21T14:38:23","date_gmt":"2021-09-21T14:38:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test.nuth-itt.co.uk\/?page_id=2243"},"modified":"2026-02-10T17:05:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T17:05:00","slug":"insulin","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/training.nuth-itt.co.uk\/?page_id=2243","title":{"rendered":"Insulin"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>How to prescribe insulin.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>From\u00a0<strong>Medication List<\/strong>\u00a0in the patient record and click on\u00a0<strong>Add.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<li>Search for <strong>\u201cInsulin\u201d.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Click on <strong>Insulin Order Set.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<li>The Insulin order set will open with Insulin options organised by type (rapid acting, short acting etc).<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"infoSection\"><i class=\"fa fa-info-circle\" style=\font-size:3rem\"><\/i>  The related results section will display the latest Capillary glucose results (last three with option to view more.) When interpreting this please take note the result date and time.<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol start=\"5\">\r\n<li>To prescribe insulin(s) <strong>tick<\/strong> in the appropriate order set box(es) and click on <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n<li>Another order set will open for each insulin type selected. These order sets contain multiple lines to facilitate variable dose prescribing.<\/li>\r\n<li>In the order set <strong>tick<\/strong> the number of lines required, and complete the dosing instructions for each order detail in the <strong>Details<\/strong>\u00a0pane.\u00a0<strong>Multiple lines will be needed if doses vary between administration times.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<li>The following are mandatory fields:\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Dose\u00a0\u00a0\r\n\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>Dose unit (pre-populated and limited to unit(s) (except HUMULIN R))<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n\r\nRoute of Administration (pre-populated and limited to sub-cutaneous)<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n\r\nFrequency<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n\r\nStart date and time<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>The remaining fields are optional.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"infoSection\"><i class=\"fa fa-info-circle\" style=\font-size:3rem\"><\/i>  The \u201cagreed Insulin dose range field\u201d is to facilitate variable doses and self-administration, use of this must be agreed with patient and nursing staff (Refer to the trusts self-administration policy).<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol start=\"10\">\r\n<li>Once all necessary fields are completed click on OK and sign\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"82\" height=\"20\" class=\"wp-image-1669\" style=\"width: 82px;\" src=\"https:\/\/training.nuth-itt.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Prescribing-Sign-Button.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"warnSection\"><i class=\"fas fa-exclamation-circle\" style=\font-size:3rem\"><\/i>  This will generate an open-ended prescription.
